Carles Viarnès is an experienced piano player and composer who has been trained in classical music, and this is the first time he releases his compositions through a label.
His music reflects a wide range of influences: from Bach or Pärt to Gorecki, Davis, Camarón or Haden. There is a clear intention in Viarnès’ music to embrace minimalist and modern classical music, while subtly exploring the electronic and experimental aesthetics.
His compositions are strongly influenced by improvisation and contemporary piano music fom Peter Broderick, Goldmund or Nils Frahm for instance. This said, his compositions come across as simple 'songs for piano': they can be both evocative and suggestive. The songs Carles Viarnès writes progress slugishly, it can build a sort of ambiental landscape that is both melancholic and fragile.
When he plays live, his music sounds austere and yet emotional, with several pianos interacting simultaneously, in a similar fashion to the music of E.S.T, The Montgolfier Brothers or Flim.
